Asaka, Tokyo

There are so many people doing something interesting with their style in Tokyo that at the start of the trip all I wanted to do was photograph everything and everyone that caught my eye. But as the week went on, it became more a case of who stood out from the already stylish crowd, who stimulated me enough to go "wow" and jump up and go after them without hesitation.

I was actually waiting for another girl to come out of the convenience store so I could ask for her photograph when I saw Asaka walking towards me. I don't even remember thinking "should I just wait for this other girl to come out?", it was like a sudden attention shift and I was off getting her photo instead! I love how she has styled herself head to toe and how all the little bits compliment each other without one dominating the other. It all works just right.

Outfit | Dazzling Days

I really miss the dazzling sunshine we had in Tokyo, at times it was so intense and blinding that you just had to turn your face to it, close your eyes and soak it all up. It was nice to experience Autumn going on Winter again, nice to be constantly moving around into the sunny spots to warm up and defrost the hands. Not to mention how awake and alive we felt the whole time! Uniqlo sweater and skinny jeans, GAP cardigan, Comme Ca Ism scarf, leather boots and bag from Taipei.

A Typical Day In Tokyo

It's kinda cool how with each trip to Tokyo, it has become less and less like a 'holiday' and it's more like we're just 'living' in Tokyo for a few days. It was my first time shooting in Tokyo so I spent more time out on the streets than anywhere else which was good cos it meant I wasn't spending money but window shopping instead, plus I enjoyed meeting lots of stylish people on the streets! Some shots out of a typical day for us in Tokyo (top to bottom): Harajuku Station on the Yamanote Line which we rode every morning from Shinjuku, Harajuku St, shops and people around Ura-Harajuku (back streets of Harajuku), sitting out in the morning sun people-watching, afternoon sun outside Ralph Lauren (a popular spot for streetstyle photographers to hang out and get photos), one of many streetstyle photographers that lined the main street, me taking a streetstyle photo!, a view from the bridge in Omotesando Hills on a walk around in the afternoon sun, and us taking photos of our reflections in shop windows.

And that's pretty much what we did each day as well as make frequent visits to the convenience stores to grab our favourite Onigiri, crispy chicken fillets, croquettes, and hot japanese tea. 6 days in Tokyo have come and gone just like that! Don't you wish sometimes that time actually slowed down when you're having fun?

Outfit | Afternoon Sun

Took these shots down a little back street in Harajuku while walking around and enjoying the beautiful afternoon sun. There is simply nothing better than being wrapped up in layers of wintery warmness while being doused in sunshine and blue skies all at the same time. One more day left in Tokyo, if only I could find a way to stop time right now. Uniqlo sweater, coat and jeans, self-made knitted scarf, leather boots from Taipei.

Nakamura Mio, Tokyo

It feels great to be back in Tokyo and as always, so overwhelmed by the number of people who are doing something interesting with their style here. Spent the afternoon out in Harajuku and right now we are just absolutely exhausted after our overnight flight. It has hit us. One of those where it feels like you've completely skipped a night and haven't slept (at all). And it's only 4pm right now! Gonna take a nap now and rest the feet, it's gonna be a big day tomorrow.

Outfit | Black & White

I'm really liking black and white at the moment and I think that makes things so much easier when I'm trying to put together a wardrobe of basics that can be easily mixed and matched. Colours come and go but black and white will always be in. Wore this today while I went into town to meet and catch up with a few different people. Wearing Uniqlo top and leather belt, GAP jeans, leather shoes from Taipei, leather bag from Seoul, and the sheer outerwear is from a local boutique. One more sleep til Tokyo! It's like Christmas Eve but ten times better!

And many thanks to Sarah & Alexa of Pixiekrane who kindly did an interview and feature on StyleSophomore. It was nice to meet up with them today, they have a really cool blog where they share their passion for fashion, arts and the creative scene here so I'm really pleased to be a part of that. You can check out the feature here

Rei Shito, Tokyo

Met up with the lovely and effervescent Rei Shito, street fashion photographer of Style from Tokyo, when I was in Tokyo back in May last year and I took these quick shots of her as we wandered around the streets of Harajuku. Browsing through folders of photos from previous trips to Tokyo makes me wanna go back there right now! Good thing is that I don't have to wait much longer cos this time next week we'll be on our way! Looking forward to meeting up with Rei again, and also shooting street style for the first time in Tokyo (I'm practicing my "Shashin o totemo ii desu ka?"). Stay tuned cos no doubt I'll have loads to share!
