Boot Cut, Taipei

Outfit | Semi-Hidden

I've been so busy taking photographs of other people lately that I forget sometimes to stop and take outfit shots (lame excuse I know). These are from our walk home the other day and look!... a glimpse of my little star. The thing I love about having semi-hidden tattoos is that to most people, it's hardly visible and even I forget sometimes that I have them until I see shots like these. It's a nice reminder but also a bad one because it just makes me want to get more! Wearing a super basic outfit, Uniqlo top and ZARA jeans.

Rui & Shinya, Tokyo

Rui on the left and Shinya on the right. These guys were strolling around the back streets of Harajuku on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and I was always going to photograph them together from the minute I saw them. I like how their styles are similar in the way they dress, but also the way they stood for this photograph.

Ishan, Taipei

I love the play on proportions here and it's not everyday that I see quilted down jackets worked in so well with the rest of the outfit. It's looks so simple yet it seems like the perfect balance between fashion and functionality. And also I've been noticing lately, the influence that our surroundings and the environment appear to have on our style, like the colors we choose to wear, the structure of clothes, color combinations etc. Or maybe it's just pure coincidence that in this picture the color of the jacket matches, almost precisely, the color of the terra-cotta pot and brick wall in the background. And that the grey boots almost blend into parts of the pavement?

On another note, I have some exciting news! James and I have just started working on a photo book which is planned to come out later this year. It'll be like a "behind-the-scenes" (captured in photographs) of our two sites StyleSophomore and La Mode OutrĂ© and will give a bit of an insight into everything that goes on behind the photographs that you see on the blog. Will keep you posted on how it all goes and as we get further into the process and making of it!

"Without black, no color has any depth. But if you mix black with everything, suddenly there's shadow - no, not just shadow, but fullness. You've got to be willing to mix black into your palette if you want to create something that's real." - Amy Grant

Outfit | Inverted Lapels

This is the three-tone coat I bought from ZARA. It was another one of those pieces that I'd seen in the shop before but never thought of picking it off the rack until James made me try it on. I love the unique menswear-inspired design - the inverted lapels, structural cut, color tones and the flap pockets at the front give it quite a manly feel while the positioning of the panels create that extra shape, line and length which is just what I need. Also took my new booties out that I bought from SOGO. Realised that the best way to soften up new leather shoes is to run around all afternoon chasing after people and taking photographs. Blisters aside, they are well and truly worn in (I hope!).

Wearing ZARA coat, Uniqlo shirt, Uniqlo jeans, Eastman boots, leather bag from Taipei.

Layered Up, Tokyo

After being restricted to wearing single layers for the last two years, I'm loving all the layering inspiration that I'm getting from the streets at the moment. And as much as I'd like to just stay at home wrapped up in a cozy blanket on drizzly days like today, I'm also excited about being able to wear clothes (and lots of it!). Whether it's layering in fall or layering in winter, it's all about experimenting and being creative. Time for me to start playing with different textures, fabrics, colors, proportions, shapes and sizes, and doing this without looking like a lumpy potato sack. Easier said than done I'm sure!

Outfit | Warm Red

I went shopping the other day for a blazer jacket and instead I ended up buying this beautiful red wool coat along with another coat from the ZARA sale. I'm so lucky to have James come shopping with me because he always picks out stuff for me to try on and most of the time it's things that I wouldn't usually consider wearing but I fall instantly in love with and end up buying. So he decided that I needed color and I couldn't resist getting this coat the moment I tried it on. It's the perfect red, the perfect cut, I love the subtle top-stitching detail, and there was one last piece in my size. Also bought a three-tone coat which I can't wait to wear. I'm so sorted for winter!
