Annie, Seoul

I noticed that my photographs have been in desperate need of a bit of color lately. It's summertime after all and color always puts me in such a happy mood. So, I've been on the look out this week for some colors to brighten things up a bit and I love what I found today... pretty pastels mixed in with a white summer blouse and just an overall refreshing look!

Baek Hyo Min, Seoul

"I saw a drummer play once when I was a kid and I thought, that's really cool. You know, you're moving. You're using your arms and fingers. So I tried it and I loved it." - Bill Kreutzmann

I haven't met a lot of drummers, but the ones I have met seem to be the nicest and most genuine down to earth people. Just real people who love and enjoy doing what they do. I've always thought it'd be cool to play the drums and every time I see live music, more than anything else, I love to watch the drummer - so much energy, so much passion, and they just seem to have a whole lot of fun back there. Baek Hyo Min is a drummer.

Kim Ye Jin, Seoul

I always love to see how people play around with and incorporate different fabrics and textures into a single colored outfit. Completely black outfits aren't as boring (or lazy) as I thought after all!

You can check out the full shot of Kim Ye Jin here. It was included in the New York Times Readers' Street Style section this week where the theme was "Lace".

Yeong Eun & Bo Leum, Seoul

This picture makes me feel very happy. It's spring time after all and this photo to me sums up everything about spring - the pastel colors, the floral prints, the sheer fabrics, the light layers and two super cool girls who I had the pleasure to meet and who enjoyed having their photo taken as much as I enjoyed shooting them. I just want the sunny days and the cool fresh air of spring to last forever.

Mr Kim & Angel, Seoul

I was on Facebook today and I suddenly thought to myself that my old school friends and work colleagues back in the West must think it's totally weird what I'm doing, like traveling around, living in Asia, meeting complete strangers every day, taking photographs of them (and their cute little pups!) etc. And I think to a lot of them, they wouldn't actually get what I'm doing or why I'm doing this, which is fair enough. I mean, not only is the whole concept of street style photography still quite a new thing in New Zealand, but this isn't exactly what I went to University to get a degree for, and nor is it a means to make a living from alone. But it's a job for me and I'm doing ok, it's keeping me busy, I'm always learning new things, and most importantly I'm having a whole lot of fun doing this! And you know, while everyone seems to be buying houses, having kids, settling down (whatever "settling down" actually means, it sounds incredibly boring to me!)... I'm just enjoying doing this, and enjoying the freedom that goes with it.

And I'll always remember a quote that I heard many years ago from when I was in my sales job and it went something like this "You were put on this planet, so why not explore it?" So now is the time to get out and explore. It's now or never!

Rei Shito, Tokyo

It was great to meet up again with Rei Shito on our last trip to Tokyo and James and I were super excited to be involved and be part of her new book "Tokyo 100 Fashion Guide". The book has just recently been released, and it features pictures of Rei taking fashion friends around to some of her favourite shopping and dining places in Tokyo. For our part, we spent the day out in Koenji starting out with a nice lunch at a cute little cafe called Hattifnatt, and then going on to explore some of Rei's favorite vintage shops. So, if you're in Tokyo (or planning to head over there) and need a guide as to where to go for the best shopping and eats, make sure you grab a copy of her book (and check out our section on pages 14-21)!!! It's available for sale here.

Ham Yoona, Seoul

"Just around the corner in every woman's mind, is a lovely dress, a wonderful suit or entire costume which will make an enchanting new creature of her." - Wilhela Cushman

It's been pretty hot these last few days in Seoul (well, hot for me at least!) and all I can think about while walking around in the sun, is going shopping and buying myself a couple of light summer dresses. I've never been a dresses sort of person and in recent times, changing from one pair of skinny jeans to the next has been about as adventurous as my bottoms have been. But I think that might have to change very quickly cos skirts and dresses seem like the most practical thing to be wearing right now. And when I think ahead to a summer in Tokyo, I don't think it'll be a matter of a choice. Hello hot weather again!
